- David Gray tribute | Pleasant Hill Christian Church
PLEASANT HILL CHRISTIAN CHURCH David Quinn Gray 1974 - 2024 Obituary Testimony Socks Covering Souls David Gray was fondly known as Dega Dave and Grumpy. His first grandchild, Jadyn, blessed him with the nickname Grumpy when he couldn't pronounce Grandpa. More than 2 years ago David was diagnosed with cancer - 962 days to be exact. Through this battle, he renewed his faith in God. In fact, David frequently stated that he hoped to be remembered for the last 2 years of his life rather than the first 48. If you had the pleasure of being around him, you would hear him ask friends and strangers the question, "Do you know Jesus?" And, if you didn't answer with a solid "yes", he would happily share his faith and the story of Jesus with you. David was a family man. His wife Melissa meant the world to him, and he referred to her as his pillar of strength. Family was everything. The house was often full of grandchildren, siblings, parents, and friends. The more, the merrier was his belief. As a firefighter, he gained a brotherhood during his almost 22 years of service. David started his firefighting career in the City of Morrow. In 2005, he joined the City of Woodstock. He was widely respected and loved. When on shift, co-workers often stopped by his bunkroom, "the lounge", just to hang out. The door was always open with snacks available. Chemo days were Dave's opportunity to bring smiles to others. His goal during the 60 rounds of chemo was to be his goofy self and bring those around him joy. David started a mission he referred to as "Socks Covering Souls" , which collects silly socks to pass out to those who need a smile. His theory was that the socks made him smile in the morning, then he made others smile when they saw him, and they can spread a smile by giving socks to others. No end in sight. Pranking others made him laugh. Through his long, tough battle, David was the one constantly encouraging and lifting others up. Heaven is celebrating because it gained a true angel. Remember his laugh, his hug, his pranks and his silly socks. David might not walk the earth any longer, but his presence will always be with us. The memories and the love remain. Listen for David's tidbits of wisdom: "You don't have to look too far to find someone who has it worse than you ." "Don't let the hard days win." "All go, no quit."

- History | Pleasant Hill Christian Church
Founded in 1852, Pleasant Hill Christian Church has a rich history in our community. PLEASANT HILL CHRISTIAN CHURCH Our History TIMELINE OF PLEASANT HILL CHRISTIAN CHURCH Founded in 1852 , Pleasant Hill Christian Church has been a part of our community for over 170 years. The first church building was made of logs and was located between the current building and the adjoining cemetery. Children have always been valued at PHCC. When the church first began, children were seated on the floor on pallets and were given a biscuit or cornbread to keep them pacified during the service. Late 1800's The log building burned down and a new frame building was erected on what is now the parking lot. L ate 1930's Sunday School began, and the church also began meeting twice a month. May 8, 1955 A new sanctuary was dedicated. This building is our current education and office building. 1960 The church began meeting every Sunday. October 6, 1991 The current worship auditorium was dedicated. OUR LEGACY PHCC has been a part of our community for over 170 years. That is a long and rich legacy. It would be easy for our legacy to be one of survival. We have made it through a civil war, two world wars, economic downturns, a global pandemic, and turmoil in our country. This church has survived; however, our legacy should be more than just one of survival. Our legacy must be one of people's lives being changed by the truth. In the past, men and women have taken this task seriously. If you walk through the cemetery in front of our building, you will see the names of many who sacrificed so that the truth of God’s word could be proclaimed. Now, it's our turn to keep this good work going. We are striving to make sure that our legacy continues to change lives for the better and to bring souls to the Lord. We continue to seek the lost, mature the Christian, and serve in our community. What role will YOU play in the legacy of PHCC?
- Dollar Club | Pleasant Hill Christian Church
Donations to the Dollar Club go toward helping those who have a specific immediate need. PLEASANT HILL CHRISTIAN CHURCH Dollar Club Here's How It Works A donation box at the entry to the sanctuary gives everyone the opportunity to give a dollar (or any amount.) These dollars will be pulled together and used to meet the needs of our friends and neighbors. This can be a good way for parents to teach their children to show love to others by donating. How the money is used Sometimes people have a need for which just a little bit of help could make a big difference. Maybe you have a neighbor who cannot afford a car seat, a student who needs school supplies, or a co-worker who needs help filling a prescription. You may know the need but not have the resources to help. That’s where the Dollar Club may be able to step in and help you meet the need. Make a request If you have a need or know of a need, you can click below to fill out a request form. This form will be forwarded to a team of volunteers who keep track of our Dollar Club resources, pray for every request, and allocate resources. REQUEST FORM FAQ How do I give my dollar? You can designate it on your in-person giving, online, or use the “Love Where You Live ” stand in our foyer. Am I expected to give to the Dollar Club? No, this is all on a voluntary basis. Can I give more than a dollar? Of course! Will every request be approved? The Dollar Club team will approve as many requests as they can. While this team wants to help you to help others, they also will be good stewards of all resources that have been given. There may be times that the team redirects the need to other community groups who may be able to help. Does this replace our benevolence ministry? No, our benevolence team has a different focus and guidelines that they use to meet needs inside and outside the church family. There will be times when the two teams work together. Will I hear of ways the Dollar Club is making a difference? Absolutely! We want to celebrate together. Every month we will highlight ways the Dollar Club is making a difference. Does someone you know have a need? Fill out the request form below. REQUEST FORM
